The Revelation Of Jesus,The Son of God,2:23-25

Revelation 3:Jesus Knows All Men,2:23-25

23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,

25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

(2:23-25) Introduction: This is a brief passage packed full of powerful truths.Jesus revealed that He knew all men.

1.Fact 1:many believed in Jesus(v23)

2.Fact 2:Jesus did not commit nor entrust Himself to men.(v24-25)

[1] (2:23) Belief-profession,False:first,many believed in Jesus. There are two very significant facts here.

a. Many believed in His name. The word “believe”(episteusan)is in the Greek aorist tense, which means they believed once-for-all.Their belief was genuine,at least the belief of some. However, the belief of others was not genuine. The fact that Jesus knew “all men”( all those professing belief) and did not commit Himself to them shows the inadequacy of their faith.

b. They believed because of the miracles. Many believed in Jesus because of the spectacular signs He performed. However, such belief made a person only a spectator, not a participant in His life. Many believed and followed Jesus because it made them feel good, comfortable, and secure.Such belief is weak and often fails. There were those who was attracted to Jesus because of the unusual power they witnessed. They believed because of the power, this belief leads to salvation for everyone who believes. Some through the miracles seen exactly who Jesus was,the very Son of God.Yet many only sought Him for what they could get out of Him,many who never gave any thought to what they might do for Christ.None was even aware of the cost of discipleship, they were unaware that a person had to sacrifice himself and give all he was and had to Christ in order to become a true follower of His.

[2] (2:24-25) Belief-Jesus Christ,Knowledge of-Sin,Secret: second,Jesus did not commit Himself to men.The word “commit” is the very same word as “believe” in v23. Jesus did not trust nor believe in the people; He did not commit Himself into their lives or hands.Jesus kept on refusing to trust men, kept on refusing to commit Himself into their lives. Two reasons are given for this continuing attitude of Jesus.

a. Jesus knew all men.The idea is that He knew every single man personally. No one escaped His knowledge.

b. Jesus knew what was in man.No one needed to tell Him about man.He knew man’s nature: His depravity, evil, deception, and fickleness. He knew the men He could and could not trust. He knew every man who professed to believe, yet would;betray him;deny his faith under pressure;forsake Him and turn back to the world;slip and fall back into sin;be weak and easily influenced, tossed to and fro;prove untrustworthy;lack zeal and a genuine commitment;and lack courage to stand.

Jesus knew all this about every man.nothing was hid from Him.therefore,He was not able to commit Himself and His blessings to some men despite the fact that they professed to believe.

Thought 1. Some so-called believers( those who make false professions)never receive the indwelling presence of Christ.Christ cannot commit Himself to them.this could mean no assurance of salvation;the Holy Spirit unable to live in the heart of the false believer; No fullness of Life;and no hope for eternal life.

Thought 2. Christ knows everything about everyone. As this Scripture says:He knows “all men” and He knows what is “in man” all his thoughts and deeds, good or bad, done in the light or in the dark,in the open or behind closed doors, publicly or secretly.

We cannot fool God with empty words of profession.God looks at the heart and the intent of the heart. It i swhen we believe in our hearts the Lord Jesus, that we can then cofess with our mouths that God has raised Him from the dead ,and then be saved………..

Living With The Light On

1John 1:5b-7;”God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness we lie,and do not the truth:But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.”

God is light and in him is no darkness at all, for God dwells in the light, and he has commanded us to walk in that light. Our fellowship with God and his son Jesus Christ is in the light,if we remaind in the darkness we cannot have fellowship with him.

Darkness and light cannot co-exist. The point of reconcilliation between God and man is man’s acknowledgement of his sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord.We must not remain at the point of acceptance, but we must grow in faith, in obedience to God’s word and unto perfection. Those who are not walking in the light are abiding in death. Those who claim to have fellowship with God but continue to practice sin deceived themselves.

Those who enjoy genuine fellowship with God, metaphorically speaking,”walk in the light.”This does not mean that they are perfect or sin free, but they let the light reveal the sin in their lives, and then turn away from that sin. Those who walk in the light have fellowship both with God through the confessing and cleansing of their sins and with other believers.People do sin and all that say they don’t is calling God a liar, when Gods word is active in your life you will confess your sins and not deny them.Truly knowing Jesus Christ is having a practical daily devotion and obedience to the Father’s words. So let us live with the light on and experience the full love of God..

Called Out Of Darkness

Matthew 9:9 ” And Jesus passed forth from thence,he saw a man named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of customs:and he saith unto him, follow me,and he rose, and followed Him”.

Follow Me: These are the instructions given us by our Savior. He said to take up our cross, deny ourself daily and follow Him.He is the way so let us follow Him.He is the way out of darkness, for he is the light of the world ,so follow Him.The way out of damnation, for in Him is our salvation. The way out of confusion, for He is our Prince of Peace. The way out of sin, for he is the Savior,so let us follow Him.

Here we have Jesus, on His mission journey. He was delievering many from the captivity of sin when he passed by and saw a man named Matthew sitting collecting taxes.Jesus saw him and said follow me. Matthew then raised up and followed Him.He didn’t question Him, he didn’t try to finish up what he was doing, he didn’t go back to doing that which Jesus had called him from ,it says he rose up and followed Him.Jesus is passing through the lives of many today, calling them out from among this world to follow Him.Today is the accepted day for salvation;”the day you hear His voice harden not your hearts”.Do you hear him calling at your heart strings?Don’t let salvation pass you by.Rise up and follow Him.Rise up from the muck and mire of this world, rise up above the cares and concerns of this world, rise up from the grip and hold of the lust, will, and desires of the old man and follow Jesus. He calling you,He came to save you deny yourself and follow Him.

Jesus asked Matthew a tax collector to follow Him and become a soul collector. He is calling today for us to leave that of the world and become builders of the Kingdom. He said to “Follow Him”, there is more to following a person than just walking behind them.So let us follow Him in total commitment to His word, will and way.Let us follow Him with our whole heart, walk in the truth of His word and the power of His Spirit, that others might follow us as we follow Christ to Glory.

The Revelation Of Jesus,The Son Of God

B. Revelation 2: Jesus Is Supreme Over God’s House,2:12-22

Lesson Scriptures:

12After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

13And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

15And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;

16And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.

17And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

18Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

19Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

20Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

21But he spake of the temple of his body.

22When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

(2:12-22) Introduction:Jesus Christ has suremacy over God’s house, that is, over the temple or church. He alone has the right to rule over God’s house.

1)Jesus left Cana (vv.12-13)

2)His discovery of evil in the temple(v14)

3)His right to cleanse the temple(vv15-17)

4)His power to erect a new temple(vv18-22)

[1] (2:12-13) Jesus left Cana. He went down to capernaum and stayed there for just a brief time. Then He left for Jerusalem to attend the passover Feast.

[2] (2:14) Jesus discovered evil in the temple. Note two facts.

a. He entered the temple

b. He found the temple being desecrated. It was the Court of the Gentile where so much of the commercialism took place. There was a regular commercial market place within its walls. How did a commercial market ever get into the temple of God?Very simply, greed.Worshippers needed animals and other things for their sacrifices and offerings, while Pilgrims from foreign nations needed money exchanged.at some point the priest though had decided to take advantage of the market themselves instead of letting retailers on the outside reap all the profits. The priest began to set up booths within the courts of the Gentiles and to lease space to outside retailers, which for the most part were their family members.can you imagine thousands of animals with their various noises and smells and waste within the temple of God?And for what ,so a few can abuse the worship center for the gain of money? It is no wonder why Jesus did what He did.He could do no other wise for He is the Son of God,and they were defiling His Fathers House. There was no hope of worship within the court of the Gentiles.Prayer and worship were impossible.

[3] (2:15-17) Jesus’ right to cleanse the temple. Three points show His right.

a.The scourge of cords. Ths was a symbol of His righteous anger,of His right to be obeyed,of His right to enforce obedience within the temple. The scourge was a symbol of the power and cleansing judgment of God,the kind of power and cleansing judgment that causes men to tremble before God.He ran through the temple doing three things(a) He chased out all who were buying and selling;(b)He threw over the tables of the money changers; and(c)He threw over the chairs of the dove dealers.

Thought 1.The temple(church) can be abused by…

* Forgetting what worship is all about

* Misusing the facilities and buildings of God’s house

* Ignoring God’s holiness and forgetting ones duty to reverence God.

* allowing questionable,non-worshipful activities

b. Jesus’ unique relationship to God.He called God “My Father” and the temple “My Father’s house”.

Jesus was saying the temple was God’s therefore,it was to be a house of worship for all people. The temple is called the house of worship not the house of sacrifice, offerings teachings, prophecy, or preaching.Everything done in the House of God is to lead to the worship of the Father and communion with the Father. It is not to be used as a commercial center. It is not a place of buying and selling. It is not to be profaned. It is to be a place of sancity, refined and purified by God himself.

[4] (2:18-21) Temple-Church,The death of Jesus predicted;Jesus power to erect a new temple,His authority was questioned by the religionist. They wanted to know what right did He have to do what He was doing. The proof that He was the Son of God with authority over the house of God ws to be given. The sign was to be His body,His death and resurrection. The resurrection was to be the supreme proof of who He is.They were to destroy Him( kill Him) but He would raise from the dead after three days. His death and resurrection was to provide a new temple,a meeting place for God and man.It would be in Him that man would thereafter meet God.The temple of His body was to become the temple of men,the temple whereby men would worship and be reconciled to God.

Conclusion:Cleanse your temple of all that might hinder a true worship experience with the Lord.empty it of all malice, envy, greed, and self-righteousness, and allow the peace of the Lord to abode in your temple that you might dwell in the temple of the Lord forever……..
