Aim Higher

Psalms 121:1-2″I Will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,From whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth”

We must look to Jesus in all circumstances of our life.It is in him we should look,in him we should trust, and to him we should we sacrifice in in times of uncertainties. The psalmist here says “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills”.

Many are lifting our eyes to the hills and not to Jesus, looking to the elevated high places and the things we have elevated to the high places in our lives, when it is Jesus who saves. Many are looking to our Jobs, bank accounts positions and other things we have placed in high esteem in our lives. Why do we look to the hills, why do we say we are going to look to the hills,it is looking to the hills which has gotten most of us in the situations we find ourselves in today.Looking to the hills have taken our eyes off of God, and his purpose in our life. This causes us to stray to the left and to the right,as we begin chasing the lust and desires of our own hearts,no longer being led by the spirit of God.Sometimes God wants us to go through the valley of the shadow of death, but looking to the high places we sometime feel we are to good or to important to go through the gutters of life, even if it means to save a lost soul. Our vain thinking and need for variety sometimes returns us to the very world the gospel has called us out of,the world of darkness God has delievered us from.Looking to the hill can cause us to become selfish, seeking power, prestige, and popularity, instead of leading a lost soul to the salvation of the Lord.

The psalmist says he “will lift up his eyes unto the hills”, then he ask a question”from whence cometh my help”,He say where does my help come from, is it comming from the idols I have placed in the hills and the high places of life.( The hills and high places was where they placed the false god whom they made sacrifices too.)Saints is our help comming from our Jobs, bank accounts, or friends, the things in our life we often make sacrifices for.Where does our help truly come from? Saints are we worshiping the blessing and not the blessor? He goes on to say my “Help cometh from the Lord”.Truly the Lord is the salvation of the world. Our help comes from the Lord, it always comes from the Lord.So aim higher and to look to Jesus the Christ our help from the lord.

Staying Faithful

John 6:66-67 “From that time manyof His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him.Then said Jesus unto the twelve,Will you also go away?

” No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.” For which of you , intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it. Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? Do you believe? Have you truly counted up the cost? Will you go on with Jesus regardless of the suffering that comes alone with the journey. Will you continue on, when the road gets rough, when your friends turn there backs on you. Will you stay the course when you find that you might not get rich,or that you might have to let go of some of the material things in your life,or will you go back, and walk no more with him.

Here in this chapter of John we have what can be called the revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus reveals who he is,why he came and our work in this great plan of salvation.Since the fall of man ,it has always be about reconciling man back with God, from  Noah’s ark, to Joseph in egypt, Moses leading the children of Israel from Egypt and even Samson’s battles, were all about the salvation of  mankind. Here in the story we have a great multitude following Jesus, all following Jesus were not Follwers of Jesus, are you following him or a follower of his, many followed seeking the miracles he preformed and the food which they ate.We have many today seeking Jesus for material and worldly possessions and not for the salvation of their soles. Jesus reveals to us our work in this great plan, he took the loaves Blessed it then broke it and gave to the disciples, who then distributed it among the people, Jesus then instructed them to gather up the fragments that none be lost. See Jesus came that none be lost,he has given us the blessed word of God for us to take out and share with a dying world, that none be lost, we are then to take up the fragments of broken lives, and lead them to Jesus. Then Jesus reveals who he is, stating that all who don’t eat of his flesh and drink of his blood shall not enter the kingdom

Jesus must live on the insideof us, he is the living word by which we shall have everlating life. He is the abundant life promised us by Gods word. God never promised us big cars, fancy houses, large bank accounts, he never said the road would be easy , a narrow uphill road is never an easy roadespecially when so many are bumping into you on the downward road. But what he did promise is that he would never leave you nor forsake you, and life more abundantly. What can be more abundant tha a life lived in the arms of our savior.

Following a Trusted Leader

                                                                 Sunday School Lesson
                                                                      January 29,2012
Lesson Focus:
Look to God as your Leader
Lesson Scripture:
Exodus 15:1-3,19,22-26

Introduction:

God taught the Hebrew slaves coming out of Egypt some very important and significant lessons that should be heeded today as well. The Israelites walked throught the Red Sea on dry ground but when the Egyptians pursued God’s people ,God fought on their behalf. The former slaves witnessed the destruction of their enemies from the shore.Moses recoginized God’s attributes.God is powerful and strong. He is our salvation. He is majestic in His Holiness and a worker of wonders. The Lord is a man of war and he defeated all the gods of Egypt. Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea to the desert of Shur. For three days they traveled without water. Finally, they came to Marah but could not drink the water because it was bitter. The people complained and grumbled, they complained to Moses,”what are we to drink?” God placed them in this situation to teach them how to turn to Him in difficulties, instead of whining and complaining to their leader.God used this occasion to instruct His people and express His expectations.Even though He had rescued them from slavery,God expected them to trust Him,to follow Him closely, and to do as He said,as obedient servants to Him. Submission to Him would result in emotional, physical, and spiritual heath. However,if they rebelled they would suffer as the Egyptians did.God is no respect of person, all disobedience could expect to experience God’s consequences.
Intervention By God
Exodus 15:1-3,19,KJV
1Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
3The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.
19For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
Footnotes:

Shortly after the Israelites’ miraculous escape from Egypt, they found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and the chariots, horses, and men of Pharaohs army. When they felt the had no way out, they cried out to Moses and to God,”was there no graves in Egypt that they were brought to the desrert to die?”(exodus 14:11)Moses told them they had nothing to fear ,God was going to deliever them.We too must have no fear and trust that if God leads us to a situation,He will deliever us.There is no failing in God, He is perfect.God told Moses to raise His staff above the water of the sea,and when he did the waters parted and the Israelites passed over on dry land ,while the Egyptians ,their horses, chariots, and all the men were drowned. When the people saw the great power of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant. They began to sing a song of praise to the Lord, they acknowledged what God had done for them.We too must sing a song of praise for all God has done for us.He saved us from the slavery of sin, allowing us to cross over with the death of His only begotten Son, into the land of promise.
A Promise from God
Exodus 15:22-26 KJV
22So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
Footnotes:

The children traveled south and wandered into a dry desert, short on water as well as patience. They soon found water but it was to bitter to drink, but rather than trust God who had just shown them His wonderful power, they began to grumble.Moses was upset that they so soon lost their confidence in God,and in frustration cried out to Him.God didn’t get upset with them ,instead He showed Moses a piece of wood and told him to toss it in the water.Moses obeyed and when the stick hit the water, the water became sweet.God then promised the Israelites “If you listen carefully to the voice of the lord your God and do what is right in His eyes,I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you”.Implied with this promise was a warning,if they ignored God’s voice or failed to follow His instructions, they would suffer the same consequences as those like the Egyptians, who chose to make something or someone else their god.Putting our trust in God is not a one time thing, that after we do it we go back to our self-directed ways.We need to constantly put or trust in Him in all we do and say.
Make God your Leader and you can never go wrong……….

He’s Still Knocking!

Revelations 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock:if any man hear my voice, and open the door,I will come in to him,and will sup with him and him with Me”.

” He came unto His own,and His own received him not.But as many as received Him,to them gave he power to become the sons of God,even to them that believed on His name”. Jesus suffered, bled and died on an old rugged cross to save the whole world. But to be save you must accept His death as your own,you must believe Jesus died for you.You must let Him in to your life.Is Jesus still knocking or have you opened the door to your heart and let him in?

Jesus says “I stand at the door and knock”.Jesus is standing at the door of our hearts and He is knocking. He came to seek and to save the lost.He is humbling asking to come in,For if any man hears His voice and open,He will do the rest,He will come in.He said “the day that you hear my voice harden not your heart”.See today is the accepted day of salvation,so open your heart to receive Him,and open your mind to believe Him.He will come in and sup with you and you with Him.Feast on the bread of life,O taste and see the goodness of the Lord.He is no respect of person he said if “any man” hear My voice,So he is standing and knocking on the door to the hearts of all men, and all women.he is calling out to you, let him who has an ear hear Him and open the door that he might come in.

Jesus came from heaven to earth to show us the way to salvation. He did everything that was needed for us to enjoy everlasting life with the Father. All he ask of us is just to believe and let Him in.Let receive the free gift of salvation and everlasting life with our Savior.
